Alex Scott opens up about relationship with teammate Kelly Smith: ‘I fell head over heels in love’ | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Alex Scott, 37, has revealed that she “fell head over heels in love” together with her former England and Arsenal teammate, Kelly Smith, 43. Alex, who generally keeps her personal life private, has spoken candidly about their relationship, and subsequent heartbreak, for the primary time.

The extracts may be present in her recent memoir, How (Not) To Be Strong. 

Speaking on the launch on Monday evening, Alex explained that she wanted to disclose that a part of her life because it will have been “cheating” to depart it out. 

She also described Kelly, who’s six years her senior, to be her “old flame” and says their relationship was a “huge a part of her life”.

She said, as reported by The Mirror: “I went backwards and forwards on whether I’d actually be writing the chapter. But then it was certainly one of those moments, I’m writing this book and I would like to inform the whole lot. I believed I’d be cheating you all if I didn’t put that in there.

“For me, it’s like that old flame story, I fell madly and deeply in love. And yes, there’s that heartbreak and people things, nevertheless it’s an enormous a part of my life and I wouldn’t return and alter that. 

“Because that feeling of affection and that excitement and what it gives you, it needed to be in there.” 

Alex first joined the England national team in 2004, with Kelly making her debut nine years earlier.

The football stars each signed for Arsenal in 2005 after Alex had been playing for Birmigham and Kelly returned from her stint in the US.

During their time together, they bought a house in Hertfordshire before moving to America to play for the Boston Breakers in 2009.

The pair would then return to the UK in 2012 following the suspension of the ladies’s league within the US.

They re-signed for Arsenal and represented Great Britain within the 2012 Olympics, where the team finished fifth. 

In 2016, Kelly married management consultant DeAnna Dobosz, who she shares two children with. 

Kelly has previously opened up about her struggles with alcoholism and admitted that she would “drink daily until [she] passed out” after she suffered an injury to her leg in 2004.

She explained to the Independent in 2011 that she eventually sought help and spent a month on the Priory after which had treatment on the Sporting Probability Clinic. 

Alex is currently single and recently revealed that she is “ready” to like again after a series of “unhealthy” relationships.

While reflecting on herself and her past romances, Alex told The Times: “I have been single for some time now, and I feel that is because I needed to be.

“There have been patterns in my relationships that I knew weren’t healthy.

“I understand myself more now. Before I at all times had these partitions up because I used to be attempting to protect myself and protect people around me

“Now I’m able to allow them to all down. I’m able to be loved.”
