Andrew Wiggins took NBA All-Defensive snub ‘personal’ in playoffs

Published:

The Warriors likely wouldn’t have won their fourth championship in eight seasons if not for Andrew Wiggins’ contributions throughout the NBA playoffs.

After being named an All-Star for the primary time in his profession, “Two-Way Wiggs” further established himself as a defensive presence throughout Golden State’s title run, often matched up with superstars akin to Memphis Grizzlies’ Ja Morant, Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Dončić and Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum, the Warriors heavily relied on Wiggins’ lockdown defense.

Wiggins joined former NBA player Vince Carter and co-host Ros Gold-Onwude on “The VC Show” podcast, where he revealed one goal that he has for the upcoming 2022-23 season.

“One thing I’m really going to strive for this upcoming season is being on the [NBA’s All-Defensive team],” Wiggins said. “That is a giant goal of mine and hopefully, I opened some eyes within the playoffs so I might be on the radar.”

Despite a powerful defensive showing within the regular season, Wiggins didn’t receive a single All-Defensive team vote. Warriors forward Draymond Green was chosen to the All-Defensive Second Team and journeyman guard Gary Payton II even received three second-team votes.

Wiggins took note and used it as motivation throughout Golden State’s title run.

“I ain’t get not one vote this yr. I took it personal within the playoffs, that is my likelihood to actually showcase what I can do, put my name on the radar,” Wiggins added.

Wiggins actually did put his name on the NBA’s radar this season.

If the 27-year-old is in a position to proceed his defensive dominance throughout the 2022-23 season, the Warriors must have a fantastic shot at defending their title.
