Brian Robinson Jr. picked the proper time to have his NFL breakout game

LANDOVER, Md. — Brian Robinson Jr.’s rookie season has featured many highlights but until Sunday, the third-round pick had yet to place together an entire, four-quarter performance.

The Falcons, unfortunately for them, bore witness to his breakout in Week 12.

Robinson has logged loads of carries this yr but struggled to be efficient along with his totes since coming off the Physically Unable to Perform list in early October. On Sunday, he battered Atlanta to the tune of 105 yards on 18 carries in a 19-13 Commanders victory. His 5.8 yards-per-rush average was well above the three.4 he brought into the matchup.

The Alabama draftee also contributed as a receiver, where he hauled in an early swing pass from Taylor Heinicke and flattened a helpless cornerback before crossing the goal line for the hosts’ first touchdown of the afternoon.

Washington needed every ounce of his production, too — his punishing, relentless production.

During their visit at FedExField, the Falcons attempted to beat the Commanders the best way the Commanders have been beating most of their opponents recently: By running repeatedly, defending soundly and sealing things up late.

Arthur Smith’s club used Marcus Mariota, Tyler Allgeier and Cordarrelle Patterson as ball-carriers, and all three were effective in what turned out to be a varied attack. The defense, meanwhile, intercepted Heinicke once, nearly did so a second time and limited the already-limited quarterback consistently.

Ron Rivera’s side, though, was in a position to emerge on top within the time of possession battle, succeeded just somewhat more on third downs and stood tall against Atlanta’s offense within the waning moments, mostly because of an insanely-clutch Kendall Fuller pick ultimately zone with a minute to go.

With the win, Washington improves to 7-5, moving two games above .500 for the primary time because the Alex Smith era.

Like Robinson did all Sunday long, this squad is churning up ground within the NFC playoff hunt.
