Chet Holmgren’s NBA summer league debut has the mayor of Oklahoma City ecstatic

Published:

Chet Holmgren took the ground for the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night in NBA summer league. Lower than two weeks ago, Holmgren was chosen second overall by the Thunder within the 2022 NBA draft. His size and skill set made him a top-two pick, and he has caught the eye of a high-profile figure in Oklahoma.

In his summer league debut, Holmgren scored 13 points in the primary quarter, showing off his inside and out of doors scoring abilities. His 13 were more points than the complete Jazz squad in the primary frame. He also rejected three shots, one among them on 7-foot center Tacko Fall.

Oklahoma City mayor David Holt was watching Holmgren in motion, and he’s able to clear his schedule to observe the Gonzaga alum on the NBA level.

It’s still the summer league and Holmgren’s first minutes of NBA motion, but Holt’s excitement seems warranted. Entering the draft, Holmgren was one among the highest prospects and received the lofty “unicorn” label for his special skill set. If Tuesday night is any indication of Holmgren’s future, Holt should feel confident in regards to the Thunder over the following several years.
