After stating the “differences” between the Premier League and other leagues, Marseille president Pablo Longoria has commented on the Boubacar Kamara deal to Aston Villa.
Kamara, 22, who made 130 appearances for Marseille from 2016 to 2022, joined Villa earlier this summer on a free transfer after deciding not to increase his contract there.
The French international went on to start out all six of Villa’s Premier League games after the club’s disastrous 2022–23 season, which included 4 losses to Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, West Ham United, and Arsenal.
He said: “Within the transfer market, there are too many differences between the Premier League and other leagues.
“We saw it with Bouba (Kamara) who preferred to go and play at Aston Villa as an alternative of playing within the Champions League.
“In Italy and Germany, they struggle to do things in a different way. In France, the extent has increased, the clubs invest more within the transfer market. Covid forced us to take care of the wage bill higher, which allowed us to reflect.”
