Crystal Palace close in on ‘unbelievable’ £8m player

After commencing negotiations with Swansea City over an £8 million deal, Crystal Palace is ready to sign Flynn Downes ahead of Premier League rivals Southampton and Wolves, based on the Each day Mail.

The previous England U20 international was the centre of attention on Tuesday as Russell Martin’s Swans intensified preseason training.

And as was to be expected, Downes was noticeably absent in the course of the preseason game against Colchester United.

Wales Online reports that Downes is valued at £12 million by the South Wales organisation. Despite competing interest from Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace are hoping to conclude a deal for closer to £8 million and have since emerged because the clear frontrunners.

Crystal Palace are actually involved with Downes. The Eagles sought and didn’t sign him back in 2020 when Ipswich Town turned down an affordable bid from the Premier League club.

“Flynn’s been absolutely unbelievable since he signed,” says Swans skipper Matt Grimes.

“I believe he’s been top notch. His attitude he brings to training on a regular basis… he’s a top, top player. If his dedication and work ethic is anything to go by, I believe he can go right to the highest.”
