The National Farmers Union has warned that the present shortage of eggs could represent the start of a much bigger food supply crisis.
It wants the federal government to take motion to assist farmers cope with the high costs of fuel, fertiliser and animal feed.
The NFU said the UK might be “sleepwalking” right into a crisis with the longer term of fruit and vegetable supplies in jeopardy.
