Elon Musk subpoenaed by US Virgin Islands in Jeffrey Epstein case

Published:

The US Virgin Islands has subpoenaed Tesla CEO Elon Musk for documents in its lawsuit accusing JPMorgan Chase of helping enable sexual abuses by late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

In line with a Monday court filing in US District Court in Manhattan, the Virgin Islands issued a subpoena to Musk on April 28.

The filing said Musk, one in every of the richest people on this planet, can have been referred to JPMorgan by Epstein.

It didn’t provide further explanation for its interest in obtaining documents from Musk.

Musk didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment.

The US Virgin Islands accuses JPMorgan of missing red flags about Epstein’s abuse of girls on Little St. James, a personal island he owned there.

The bank has said it mustn’t be held responsible for a former top executive’s relationship with Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019 in a Manhattan jail cell while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

The subpoena sought all communications between the entrepreneur and JPMorgan regarding Epstein in addition to communications between Musk and Epstein.

The subpoena also sought all documents regarding fees that Musk paid to Epstein or to JPMorgan regarding Musk’s accounts or relationship with JPMorgan.

It also asked Musk for all documents reflecting or regarding Epstein’s involvement in human trafficking and his procurement of ladies or women for industrial sex.

The main points were a part of a request by the Virgin Islands to serve the subpoena on Musk by alternative means because the federal government had not been in a position to serve an initial subpoena on Musk at Tesla or through an attorney who has accepted service on behalf of Musk previously.

Musk was pictured with Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s confidante, at a 2014 Vanity Fair Oscars Party. But Musk in 2020 tweeted that he doesn’t know Maxwell, and he or she “photobombed” the billionaire on the event.

Earlier this month, the Virgin Islands received court approval to serve legal papers on Larry Page, a co-founder of Google, as a part of the identical litigation.

The ruling didn’t specify what information was sought from Page.

Shares of Tesla were unchanged in after hours trading.
