They’ve had an eventful offseason to date, with the draft, free agency, and trades. The Knicks’ essential constructing piece is forward R.J. Barrett, and so they spent the offseason surrounding him with higher talent. They’ve been linked in trades for stars across the league like Donovan Mitchell, but no trade has been made yet.

Knicks 2022 NBA Offseason Grades

Draft: D+

Latest York entered the 2022 NBA draft with a first-round pick but didn’t select until the second round. Fans weren’t completely satisfied about this as they were hoping so as to add to the young core. Stephen A. Smith shared his disappointment as they traded away their picks for future draft capital.

They were in a position to unload salary like Kemba Walker and what signing first-round picks would have cost, which paved the way in which for the cash to sign Jalen Brunson.

The Knicks did find yourself with one rookie in Trevor Keels, within the second round out of Duke. Keels could possibly be a solid role player in the longer term, as he averaged 11.5 points in his lone season in college.

The draft wasn’t how Latest York upgraded the roster, but they’ll have some picks in the longer term to make use of.

Free Agency: B+

In free agency is where the Knicks made their biggest move. The Knicks signed Jalen Brunson to a four-year $104 million deal. Brunson is coming off of a breakout campaign with the Dallas Mavericks, where he shined, especially within the playoffs.

Brunson averaged 21.7 points per game together with 4.6 rebounds and three.7 assists within the 2022 playoffs. He shot 46.6 percent from the sphere and 34.7 percent from three. Brunson is a very good young guard that has the potential to proceed growing.

He’ll now get to play under the intense lights in Madison Square Garden alongside Barrett.

Latest York also inked Mitchell Robinson to a latest deal for 4 years, $80 million. Robinson is a conventional big that averaged 8.5 points and eight.6 rebounds while shooting 76.1 percent from the sphere. He contributed as a rim protector with 1.8 blocks per contest. Robinson will proceed to be a solid center for the Knicks.

One other signing at the massive man spot for Latest York was Isaiah Hartenstein. Hartenstein was signed to a two-year deal price $16 million. While the Knicks haven’t made a blockbuster move, they’ve made some trades. Latest York made the draft night moves for future picks but in addition sent Alec Burks, Nerlens Noel, two second-round picks, and money to the Detroit Pistons for a conditional second-rounder. This was also a part of the Knicks freeing up cap room to sign Jalen Brunson.

These moves weren’t big but might have been higher.

Overall Offseason Grade: B-

Even though it wasn’t an exceptional offseason, the Knicks did seemingly improve for the upcoming season. Latest York still has hope to trade for Mitchell, which might change your complete considering behind their offseason to date.
