Henry Cavill reveals he’s been FIRED from Superman role just two months after announcing his return

The huge shake-up at Warner Bros.’ DC Movies has continued, with Henry Cavill revealing that he won’t be returning as Superman.

Cavill, 39, most recently has a cameo appearance as Superman at the tip of Warner Bros. Black Adam, teasing a showdown between Superman and Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam… though that was just days before James Gunn and Peter Safran were brought on as the brand new heads of DC Movies.

The actor took to Instagram on Wednesday to disclose the news to his 22.9 million followers that he won’t be back because the Man of Steel on the large screen.

‘I even have just had a gathering with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone. I’ll, in any case, not be returning as Superman,’ Cavill began.

‘After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news is not the best, but that is life,’ he added.

‘The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to construct,’ he added.

The actor went on to deal with, ‘those that have been by my side through the years,’ adding, ‘we will mourn for a bit,’ before addressing the longer term of the franchise.

‘But then we must remember…. Superman remains to be around. The whole lot he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there!’ Cavill said.

Shortly after Cavill’s statement on Instagram, DC Movies head James Gunn took to Twitter to elaborate on the longer term of the beloved Superman character. 

‘Peter & I even have a DC slate able to go, which we couldn’t be more over-the-moon about; we’ll have the opportunity to share some exciting details about our first projects originally of the brand new yr,’ Gunn began.

‘Amongst those on the slate is Superman. Within the initial stages, our story will probably be specializing in an earlier a part of Superman’s life, so the character won’t be played by Henry Cavill,’ Gunn clarified.

He added, ‘But we just had a terrific meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a lot of exciting possibilities to work together in the longer term.’

Gunn also answered a number of questions from fans within the replies of his Twitter thread, revealing he’s writing the brand new Superman film… but won’t direct.

‘I’m writing (and have been for some time). We don’t know who’s directing yet,’ he said in response to a fan who asked if he’s writing/directing the Superman project.

One other fan asked if it might be one other ‘origin movie’ like 2013’s Man of Steel, which Gunn replied, ‘No way.’

One other curious fan asked if it might be possible for Ben Affleck to direct the Superman project, with Gunn indicating Affleck is interested by directing a DC superhero movie… though it’s unclear which one.

‘Met with Ben yesterday precisely because he desires to direct & we would like him to direct; we just have to seek out the correct project,’ Gunn said.

Just sooner or later after Cavill’s post, it was reported that Gunn and Safran were taking on as heads of DC Movies, effective November 1.

Since then, it has been reported that Wonder Woman 3 won’t be moving forward, with other unconfirmed reports suggesting that
