‘How fearful are you able to be?!’ Idris Elba reveals it was hard having to be serious fighting a fake lion created by stunt man in a foam mask in recent film Beast
Idris Elba is the hero of Beast, a survival story which pits a widowed husband, on a visit to South Africa together with his daughters, against an enormous rogue lion who’s tracking them.
The lion was created using computer graphics and through filming there was a stand-in stuntman wearing a giant foam mask.
Elba said: ‘I have not done a movie where I’m imagining — and fighting with — something that shouldn’t be really there, in such close proximity.

‘I’ve fought in other movies with swords and weapons and against things that are not there.
‘But how fearful are you able to be once you’ve got a man in a gray suit and a giant floppy head attempting to beat you? In order that was a skill set that I needed to learn.’
He added: ‘I don’t love to look at movies that I’m in.

‘I typically go to a premiere, watch the primary ten minutes after which leave. But for some reason, I stayed… which was torture!
‘Nonetheless, I used to be just fascinated about how we achieved the ferociousness of this lion.’
Elba plays a person who brings his two daughters to Africa, where he first met his late wife, when their lives are turned the other way up.
‘It’s a few family that return to a small village in West Africa to mourn the death of a loved one, my ex-wife and my childrens’ mother,’ he explained on The Tonight Show this week.

‘Mainly, they find themselves cornered by a rogue lion who has been type of broken from their pride by poachers,’ Elba continued.
He added the movie is, ‘principally a survival story,’ adding his character and his daughters, ‘are having a tricky time coping with the death of their mum, so it’s really concerning the beast coming for them, the beast of mourning, the beast of family ties and the way that every one comes together
‘We based that lion within the movie on a lion that is been extinct for a very long time, it’s called a Barbary lion,’ he said.
‘It was an enormous lion, much larger than the typical lion, so for the film we just amplified the undeniable fact that this was really big,’ Elba added.
Additionally they shared amusing over the stuntman Owen who was wearing a makeshift ‘tiger’ suit, which Fallon joked was the ‘scariest thing I’ve seen in my life.’
Beast might be in cinemas from August 26.
