Throughout the pandemic, many firms enhanced offerings beyond what’s required by state law, but now “purse strings have tightened” because the economy has shifted, Long said.

Currently, there’s not a federal paid leave program, and only 11 states plus the District of Columbia offer the profit, typically funded by payroll taxes, based on data from the National Conference of State Legislatures.

“Many firms have advantages open enrollment in November, so it’s a very good time for folks and parents-to-be to review,” Sullivan added.
