Man Utd ace Harry Maguire subject of brutal dig from Man City Champions League commentator | Football | Sport

Harry Maguire was brutally taunted by a Saudi Arabian commentator last night as Dayot Upamecano endured a disastrous personal performance for Bayern Munich against Manchester City. The clumsy centre-back, who also looked shaky when eliminating England on the World Cup with France, had a nightmare evening up against Erling Haaland as City booked their place within the Champions League semi-finals.

Firstly, Upamecano was shown a red card for bringing down Haaland just 20 minutes into the competition.

His blushes were thankfully spared nevertheless when VAR ruled that Haaland was offside meaning the choice was overturned.

Upamecano then handled a shot contained in the penalty area within the second half but thankfully for Bayern, Haaland blazed the spot-kick well over the bar as they were handed one other let-off.

But the previous RB Leipzig defender’s evening got even worse within the second half when he lost his footing – allowing Haaland to dribble past him before ending beyond Yann Sommer.

While Bayern did pull a goal back through Joshua Kimmich, their fate had seemingly already been sealed following their 3-0 first leg defeat on the Etihad Stadium.

That did not stop the beIN SPORTS commentator from mocking Upamecano, calling him UpaMaguire throughout proceedings.

Despite some very credible performances at international level, Maguire has also been mocked by rival fans during his time at Manchester United for his approach to defending.

It appears on this instance, his status was getting used against him in a bid to make fun of Upamecano’s performance against City.

“In fact, three years in a row within the semi finals of the Champions League,” Man City boss Pep Guardiola said when asked if he was completely happy together with his side’s performance after booking his place within the last 4.

“We struggled in the primary half. Upamecano broke all of the lines down our left side and we struggled with [Kingsley] Coman. We were fortunate before the penalty miss, that they had one or two probabilities and anything could occur but we defended very well.

“The ending from Erling was really, really good. He’s so young. The experience that we now have on this competition, the players feel it quite a bit, they wish to do it very well. The second half was much, a lot better since minute one.

“We’re exhausted. I don’t understand how we get better to play against Sheffield United [in the FA Cup semi-final]. Now could be a troublesome moment for the sport on Saturday.”

If City at the moment are to achieve the ultimate in Istanbul, they’ll need to get past serial winners Real Madrid who dumped them out of the competition last season at the identical stage.

Bernardo Silva is adamant his side can get the job done as they will probably be heading into the competition filled with confidence.

“We’ll go for it definitely,” the Portuguese winger said. “We all the time go for it but we feel the team could be very, very confident on the minute. I believe we’re going through.

“We’re at that time of the season where in the event you drop your performance in a single game you’re out of a contest. It’s going to be tough but we’re going to work very hard to bring some titles home.”
