  • Diogo Dalot suffered a hamstring injury while playing for Portugal at World Cup
  • That has allowed Aaron Wan-Bissaka one other likelihood to impress at Man United
  • £50m right-back performed well in wins over Burnley and Nottingham Forest

Erik ten Hag has praised Aaron Wan-Bissaka for battling to revive his Manchester United profession after a disrupted begin to the season.

Wan-Bissaka only played 4 minutes in the primary 4 months of the campaign attributable to a mix of illness and injury.

It gave Diogo Dalot the possibility to cement his position as Ten Hag’s first-choice right-back after impressing the brand new manager on the club’s pre-season tour of Bangkok and Australia.

But Dalot picked up a hamstring injury playing for Portugal on the World Cup, and Wan-Bissaka has done well in United’s first two games after the restart against Burnley within the Carabao Cup and Nottingham Forest within the Premier League.

United have scored five goals without reply with Wan-Bissaka organising a goal for Christian Eriksen against Burnley and playing particularly well against Forest on Tuesday night in an unfamiliar defence that featured Luke Shaw at centre-back for the primary time.

The 25-year-old’s future at Old Trafford was in some doubt last summer amid suggestions the club would take heed to offers for him, and there may be ongoing speculation that he could return to Crystal Palace three-and-a-half years after leaving Selhurst Park for United in a £50million move.

But with Ten Hag working to a decent budget in January and prioritising a recent striker, he’s unlikely to have a look at recent right-backs until next summer.

The United boss praised Wan-Bissaka for his return to form and fitness, saying: ‘First you may have to be on the pitch, and in the primary half of the season he was either injured or sick so he did not have a task within the squad.

‘So I believe the break was good for him. He returned, he was within the training camp in Spain and will play some games in preparation of the restart, and now he’s playing two games and he’s doing rather well so I’m joyful along with his performance.

‘We’d like competition within the squad. He has to play games within the team after which he can develop, then he can grow.’
