Mel C reveals she was banned from dating within the early days of the Spice Girls while her bandmates were free to pursue romances – and says Robbie Williams HASN’T read her memoir where she describes their fling

Melanie Chisholm has revealed how she was banned from dating within the early days of the Spice Girls – while her bandmates were free to pursue romances. 

Higher often called Mel C, the singer discussed her latest autobiography Who I Am with Australia’s The Project on Tuesday, and said while Melanie Brown, also often called Mel B, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell and Victoria Beckham were able thus far at the peak of the girl group’s fame, she was not. 

‘Looking back what struck me was it was one rule for one and one other for the others, right?’ the 48-year-old said.

‘I believe if you find yourself vulnerable as well, people go, I do not think it’s good for you’. 

Mel said the rule for the opposite women was, ‘she is effective, she will have a boyfriend, she will address having a boyfriend, she is robust enough but you should not’. 

‘It makes you query yourself if you find yourself already vulnerable’ Mel added.

Elsewhere within the interview, Mel discussed her ill-fated romance with Robbie Williams which occurred around 1997 – and admitted he ‘wasn’t lovely’ to her after they were an item. 

‘He has apologised to me and a variety of water has gone under the bridge and we’re absolutely effective and have been for a lot of, a few years’ she said. 

Mel admitted that the pop star has not yet read the chapter in her memoir detailing their tryst.

‘We’re doing a show together in a couple of weeks, so I may need to inform him to read the chapter!’ she said with amusing. 

In her memoir, Mel writes about how she was left heartbroken by Williams after he ‘behaved badly’ along with her.

The singer told how the Take That star lead her on after which ‘abruptly’ dropped her, which left her heartbroken.

Mel claimed Robbie ‘pursued’ her after which moved on quickly, but added that she has no bad feelings towards him now.

The singer also recently revealed that she hopes to reunite with all five Spice Girls for further shows, on the back of talk that they may headline Glastonbury.

The band, who parted ways in 2000, before coming back together briefly in 2007, reunited for a tour back in 2019 – but for the primary time, were a quartet as Victoria selected to not return.
