Midsomer Murders John Barnaby star admits bosses refused show demand | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Published:

Midsomer Murders will mark its fiftieth episode tonight and can see fan favourites John (played by Neil Dudgeon) and Sarah Barnaby (Fiona Dolman) back to resolve one other mysterious murder.

The on-screen husband and wife appeared on This Morning earlier this week to speak about what fans can expect.

Nevertheless, as they were chatting with Craig Doyle and Alison Hammond, Neil discussed what makes the show so successful.

When Alison said she loves the very fact there’s at all times a fete or festival happening within the village, Neil admitted: “If it was as much as me, there could be a fete in every episode.”

Nevertheless, show bosses weren’t as enthusiastic as Neil added: “They said we couldn’t try this because you’ve to make use of them sparingly.”

Alison went on: “So what is the secret to your on-screen success?”

“Sexual chemistry,” Neil laughed as he explained: “I feel we have just got on thoroughly right from the beginning, didn’t we?”

“We did,” Fiona nodded in agreement. “Neil was already solid so I had an audition and I needed to go in and browse with him.

“And yeah, I feel we clicked right from the start.

“We have done it for 12 years now which suggests all that type of fear that you’ve as an actor while you join something and you’ve to pretend you’ve an intimate relationship with someone that you have never met, that is all just gone now, hasn’t it?”

“It’s great, I at all times said we should always have had Fiona within the show anyway,” the John Barnaby star chipped in.

“But yeah, I like all of the domestic stuff as you as I at all times say to you,

“When he comes home and talks to his wife about it, it just form of comes from a special place, and I like that we now have quite a lot of fun working together and with the dog after all, is at all times there stealing the scene.”

Tonight’s episode, titled For Death Prepare, will see the detective investigating the death of an unknown man.

The synopsis for the episode reads: “Members of the amateur operatic society the Midsomer Mummers are busy rehearsing for his or her charity concert when the body of an unknown man is present in their theatre.

“Barnaby and Winter’s investigation quickly becomes a race to find who’s eager to be centre stage.”

Midsomer Murders returns tonight at 8pm on ITV.
