Morgan Defies Odds Again, Gets One other Week Living NFL Dream

Published:

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It was unexpected, but in some way former Arkansas Razorback linebacker Grant Morgan has managed to stay around living his NFL dream for one more week as a part of the Jacksonville Jaguars roster.

Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Grant Morgan (55) sacks Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Chase Garbers (15) in the course of the second half at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.

To jot down that Morgan was expected to not achieve his goal on this latest round of cuts might be viewed as sacrilege in Arkansas, but all of the signs were there. All the guts and work ethic on the earth normally is not enough to beat the team a player is attempting to make not playing him in any respect on defense or special teams in the course of the most up-to-date preseason game.

That he hasn’t made his way right into a special teams role was the apparent kiss of death. It’s how the NFL hopeful cling to their aspirations.

Morgan wasn’t desperately clinging to the railing of the Titanic. He was presumed to have already succumbed to the icy waters below.

To make it through second cuts under these circumstances is so unlikely that the official Jacksonville roster was literally just checked one last time simply to be certain he was still there before publishing.

But, as all who follow the Razorbacks know, if there are odds to be beaten, Morgan goes to do it. It is a family trait.

His brother, Drew, attempted this journey just a couple of years ago with the Miami Dolphins, lasting until the September cut.

For Grant, who got here to Arkansas as a walk-on and used his work ethic and natural leadership as a tool to carve himself right into a highly respected All-SEC and All-American linebacker, probably the most powerful tool in his arsenal is another day to prove himself.

If Captain America were an actual human being, he’d be Morgan. He’s the plucky underdog story that just won’t quit on a dream regardless of how absurd and unattainable it seems on the time.

He all the time finds a strategy to earn his accomplishments and in some way finally ends up wielding some kind of power bestowed upon him due to the worthiness of his character. Everyone around him falls in line and appears to him for leadership knowing full well the doubt they might have carried originally of his hero’s journey.

There have been three Razorbacks within the Jaguars organization when the sun rose Tuesday morning. Jeremiah Ledbetter, who had probably the most promising signs that he would make the team along with his extensive playing time on the sphere and success on the sphere, was the primary to go along with the second round of cuts as a result of injuries.

Defensive back Montaric Brown, who has the advantage of having been recently drafted, must have the leash to make it to the ultimate roster. Nonetheless, these are the Jacksonville Jaguars, so conventional wisdom must be factored out of the equation in the case of personnel decisions.

As for Morgan, it is a wasteful exercise to doubt him.

He’s just like the last puppy within the litter that has been around too long after your dad asked you to search out all of them a house. The longer he sticks around, the harder it’s to not keep him.

Perhaps someday soon Morgan will find himself forced to maneuver on to running hospitals or finding a task to educate as a graduate assistant, but for not less than another week, he gets to maintain being the overachieving Grant Morgan Razorback fans fell in love with.
