The Mrs Brown’s Boys special aired on Recent Yr’s Day but fans tweeted to say they were switching it off, since it ‘was once good’, but has ‘lost its way.’ 

The BBC show by lead actor Brendan O’Carroll aired after the favored show Joyful Valley, which returned to screens for a latest series after a break.

The series stars O’Carroll as Agnes Brown, a mother to 6 children in Dublin.

While the show was once a cult hit, it seems as if many fans have grown bored with the format.

Only 2.4million tuned in to BBC One to observe the show’s Christmas episode, titled Shining Mammy, with viewers claiming it’s now ‘unwatchable’. 

The second special was called ‘Mammy’s Hair Loom’. 

The last full series of Mrs Brown’s Boys aired in 2013 but since then it has returned for various festive specials.

Talking to The Sun’s TV Mag, Brendan explained that the mini-series was intended to have a good time 100 years of the BBC.

He detailed that the BBC was ‘adamant’ that they got 4 episodes so that they went on to book studios for 2023 to start filming then. 

The Dublin native went on to inform the publication of his gratitude for people seeing his award-winning show as their Christmas staple.

He said: ‘I absolutely find it irresistible – I get goosebumps that Mrs Brown has grow to be a part of Christmas.

‘That is what individuals who come to the show say – “Ah, it would not be Christmas without Mrs Brown”. You are kinda going “Oh my God, we established that”.

‘Because in my day that was Morecambe and Clever, it wasn’t Christmas without Morecambe and Clever, so it is a buzz.’
