When looking back on the circumstances surrounding the trade, on the time, it made sense for each side. Wiggins was searching for a fresh start and Russell was searching for an even bigger role. Each players were capable of get what they wanted with this deal.

Within the season before the trade, 2018-2019, D’Angelo Russell was within the midst of a profession yr. He averaged 21.1 points per game, 7.0 assists per game, and three.9 rebounds per game.

On the opposite side, Andrew Wiggins was within the middle of a subpar season. He averaged 18.1 points per game, 2.5 assists per game, and 4.8 rebounds per game.

Now, each players are playing at the highest of their game. Last season, Wiggins played a pivotal role within the Warriors winning a championship. And in the intervening time, Russell looks to be an integral piece of the Timberwolves’ young core.

It is tough to argue that on the time of the trade, either side was “losing”. But looking back, the Warriors gained two massive pieces in Wiggins and Jonathan Kuminga. And with this deal, they might be dominant for the foreseeable future.
