Neighbours icon Alan Fletcher surprises EastEnders fans as he stars in a special farewell clip

The Australian soap airs its final ever episode on Channel 5 within the UK on Friday night.

And just hours before, Neighbours icon Alan Fletcher surprised EastEnders fans as he swapped Ramsay Street for Albert Square in a special farewell clip posted to social media.

In addition to clever interaction which saw Alan playing himself in a scene with some forged members of the BBC soap, stars sent heartwarming messages to the forged and crew of the Aussie show.

Within the short video, Linda Carter, played by actress Kellie Brilliant, is sat expressing her sadness over Neighbours coming to an end.

When actor Alan – who recently revealed he has been diagnosed with alopecia areata, an autoimmune disorder that causes hair loss – unexpectedly pops into Bridge Street Cafe searching for a taxi with a view to make a ‘swift exit,’ Linda is stunned.

She leaps to her feet and, after confirming that it’s ‘Dr Karl Kennedy’, swiftly asks Whitney Dean, played by Shona McGarty, to take a photograph of her with the Australian soap star.

Following the scene, many EastEnders actors and actresses are shown in turn saying meaningful goodbyes to Neighbours.

EastEnders actress Charlie Brooks, who plays Janine Butcher, sent her own  well wishes and told forged and crew to be ‘really proud.’

Danny Dyer, who stars as Mick Carter in EastEnders wished everyone good luck and admitted he was ‘gutted’ to see the Aussie soap go. 

Neighbours: The Finale is being broadcast at 9pm on Friday July 29, 2022 on Channel 5 as a double episode special.

The send-off guarantees to have something for everybody, spanning all generations and many years from the opening scene in 1985, to the ultimate episode in 2022. 

The beleaguered soap opera faced an uncertain future following its cancellation by original network Channel 5, where it has spent the last 14 of its 37 years on British TV.

And Fremantle Media, the production company liable for its development confirmed it might be taken off-air indefinitely over the summer after an ‘extensive seek for alternative funding’ resulted in failure.

News of the finale air date comes after it was reported that the celebs of Neighbours will reportedly embark on a ‘farewell tour’ of the UK after the finale episode.

Alan’s EastEnders cameo comes after he recently revealed he has been diagnosed with alopecia areata, an autoimmune disorder that causes hair loss but said he finds his recent look ‘fun.’

It may affect hair on any a part of the body and may occur to anyone at any age – it may be triggered by stress. 

Earlier this 12 months the Neighbours actor addressed fans’ concerns about his health after he recently debuted a bald head.

Alan reassured fans he’s okay in a video posted to the show’s Twitter account in May as he explained his diagnosis.

‘I began to lose hair into my beard after which on my scalp in patches. So eventually I shaved my beard off, after which my hair became so patchy on my head, I needed to do away with most of that as well,’ he explained.

A synopsis for the Neighbours finale reads: ‘Jane gives Mike a tour of all of the Ramsay Street houses before the go under the hammer. As old feelings stir, Clive’s jealousy results in a shocking confrontation. 

‘Harold asks Karl and Susan to be the custodians of the history book. Faced together with her beloved friends and neighbours leaving, Susan struggles together with her feelings. 

‘As Toadie and Melanie’s wedding gets underway, Terese and Paul confront their unresolved feelings.’

Neighbours released a heartwarming finale trailer ahead of its last ever episode, teasing that fans will probably be in for an emotional hour as among the stars bid farewell, while others return to the long-lasting Ramsay Street.

The 40 second video starts with a shot of the long-lasting Ramsay Street sign while Harold Bishop reflects on his time in Erinsborough by saying: ‘It definitely looks like the tip of an era. All of it goes so quickly.’

The trailer shows that Kylie Minogue and her real-life ex Jason Donovan have finally reunited to play Scott and Charlene one last time for his or her final scenes on Neighbours.

The couple are seen leaning against their automotive, as they absorb the environment and reminisce on their time together within the town.

Within the 80s, the show was unstoppable with Kylie and Jason’s onscreen wedding as Scott and Charlene was watched by two million Australians on July 1, 1987.

Their union was a fair greater attraction when it aired within the UK a 12 months later, drawing 19.6 million viewers, making it Britain’s third most-watched show of 1988. 

Kylie and Jason, who were dating in real life on the time were household names in each countries, and would each go on to launch music careers within the UK.

Elsewhere within the trailer, quite a few Neighbours legends return to our screens including Joel Samuels (Daniel McPherson) and Mike Young (Guy Pearce).

It ends with a shot of the road and Susan Kennedy saying: ‘We may be leaving the road, but we’re at all times going to be in one another’s lives. All the time.’

And Margot Robbie is about to return to her old stomping ground of Neighbours in a cameo filmed over Zoom, news.com.au reported on Sunday.

The 32-year-old, who played Donna Freedman on the soap between 2008 and 2011, was reportedly unable to fly home to shoot the scenes. 

As an alternative, she recorded an appearance over video link, and sent pricey Champagne to the forged as thanks. 

The publication reported that former stars Delta Goodrem, Kym Valentine, Carla Bonner and Jesse Spencer are all set to return too. 

Neighbours’ most memorable storylines

Scott and Charlene’s wedding 

Perhaps probably the most famous Neighbours moment, 20million people tuned in to observe Scott and Charlene Robinson, played by Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue, get married in November 1988.

The pair’s friend and family were seen in floods of tears as Charlene walked down the aisle to Offended Anderson power ballad Suddenly, with neighbour Nell Mangel catching the bouquet.

Mark leaves Annalise on the altar

Mark Gottlieb and Annalise Hartman’s nuptials didn’t go to plan in 1994. While each parties were nervous on the day, Mark left Annalise on the alter, saying he couldn’t marry her. 

Nonetheless, it wasn’t totally right down to Annalise as he decided marriage wasn’t for him and decided to develop into a priest.

The death of Helen Daniels

Helen Daniels, played by the late Anne Haddy, established herself because the grandmother of Ramsay Street.

Embroiled in some gripping storylines, over time she saw her life stolen by a conman, she had an affair together with her daughter’s fiancé, and he or she fell down some stairs before suffering a stroke.

In a bid to bring the warring Ramsay and Robinson families together, she gathered them round to observe Scott and Charlene’s wedding together but, as they bickered over their differences, she quietly passed away on the sofa in her sleep.

The Lou, Madge and Harold love triangle

Madge Ramsay (Anne Charleston), Harold Bishop (Iain Smith) and Lou Carpenter’s (Tom Oliver) lives were entangled before the show even hit screens, with the trio knowing each other from their school days.

Madge fell head over heels for ‘Jelly Belly’ Harold but was also strongly interested in cheeky Lou. 

Nonetheless, Madge’s life took an unexpected turn for viewers when she married Fred Mitchell, with their relationship soon becoming troubled.

Madge and Harold later got back together and he proposed much to the distaste of Lou who attempted to win Madge over. Madge eventually married Harold in 1988.

After Harold’s death, Lou set his sights on Madge over again and the pair planned to marry but they called it off when he realised he wasn’t a match for Harold.

Harold returns from the dead 

Harold was killed off on the soap when he was swept out to sea when Madge’s back was turned, leaving nothing behind aside from his glasses.

Nonetheless, he made a shock return to Erinsborough five years later, declaring he’d suffered from amnesia, with Helen Daniels running into him by likelihood while browsing in a Salvation Army shop.

He returned to Ramsay Street to be reunited with Madge.

Madge’s death

Madge appeared on the show from 1986 to 1992 and again from 1996 to 2001 as a much-loved character.

After Harold’s return, the pair renewed their marriage vows and fostered a toddler but she was later diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Doctors told her she had just months to live but further tragedy struck when her life was shortened even further after she developed septicaemia after cutting her finger.

Before her death, Lou confessed his undying love for her and he or she died within the arms of Harold. 

Susan’s memory loss

In typical soap style, Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne) totally lost her memory after slipping on the milk from a spilled bowl of cereal in 2002.

She was convinced she was 16 years old again, a situation that left her incredibly confused when she found herself by likelihood at a 70s-themed birthday celebration. 

Toady’s heartache

Jarrod “Toadfish” Rebecchi, played by Ryan Moloney, found was first heartbroken just hours after his wedding to Dee Bliss (Madeleine West) in 2003 when he lost control of their automotive and drove it off a cliff, together with her body never being found.

In 2010 he left Steph Scully (Carla Bonner) on the alter when he realised she didn’t love him and through his third wedding to Sonya Mitchell (Eve Morey) in 2013, a gas bottle exploded through the reception, destroying their marquee and leaving Sonya with a fractured skull and no memory of the marriage. Characters Priya Kapoor and Rhys Lawson were also killed within the blast.
