Newcastle reach full agreement over signing



Sources have told Football Insider that Newcastle United are near finalising the transfer of Michael Mills, a 14-year-old wonderkid from Port Vale.

The young winger caught the attention of Newcastle scouts while shining for Vale’s Under-15s and impressed during a recent trial on the club.

Newcastle have fended off competition from several Premier League clubs to land Mills, who has agreed terms and is signing a scholarship contract.

The Magpies have agreed to pay Vale a fee that might reach £200,000 for the talented teenager.

This shows Newcastle’s ambition to recruit one of the best young English players and develop them into future stars for the primary team.

Newcastle have a history of manufacturing top-class academy graduates, equivalent to Sean Longstaff, Matty Longstaff and Elliot Anderson.

The fans also got a glimpse of the following generation through the club’s winter training camp in Saudi Arabia in late 2022, when Under-21 stars Lewis Miley, Dylan Stephenson, Jay Turner-Cooke, Joe White and Alex Murphy joined Eddie Howe’s senior squad in Riyadh.

Miley made his Premier League debut on the last day of the season (28 May), coming on as an alternative within the 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Co-owner Amanda Staveley confirmed that constructing a latest academy is a component of the club’s vision after the Saudi-backed takeover of Newcastle in 2021.

Last month (24 May), Newcastle appointed ex-Leicester Recruitment Operations Manager Claire Burrows – certainly one of around 20 key academy appointments made because the takeover.
