‘Reasonably priced treat’: Demand is robust on Saturday nights despite the cost-of-living crisis
Demand is robust on Saturday nights despite the cost-of-living crisis, chief executive Peter Marks told The Mail on Sunday. But weeknights have gotten more subdued.
‘What we’re seeing now could be more movement to the weekend and that individuals are very led by big events akin to Halloween, Latest Yr and birthdays,’ Marks said. ‘Monday to Thursday were never an enormous a part of trading, they’ve definitely dropped back a bit. Friday is stronger after which Saturday is OK.’
The corporate says its primary customers – young people and students – are less more likely to be hit by rising household prices and see clubbing as an ‘reasonably priced treat’.
Nightlife firms are still recovering from months of closures throughout the pandemic.
Marks said he’s keen to open Rekom’s first Central London venue. Nevertheless, he’s focusing efforts on regional cities where it could have multiple bars and clubs in ‘clusters’, which it has done in Cardiff. ‘We have got nothing in Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle or Glasgow, so these are obviously targets for us,’ he said.
