Joseph and Maureen Arnfield from Lancashire, each of their 80s, developed the travel bug after they were of their 60s and have become holiday reps. After having fun with spending the summer seasons in France, Switzerland and Italy, they might sit up for returning to the UK within the winter to pet sit.

When the Arnfields began home sitting on Boxing Day back in 1999, they might spend as much as nine months of the 12 months taking care of peoples’ home and pets and say it’s an excellent side hustle that also allows them to make savings on energy bills.

Today, the couple prefer to take care of empty business properties, ensuring they’re secure and secure.

Maureen said: “This Christmas we can have been home sitting for 23 years. We adore it and the truth is wish we had began sooner.

The couple have stayed in lovely places in Dorset, Southport, Cheshire and more recently in Malvern in Worcestershire.

Maureen explained: “There we sorted an enormous old property with 25 different rooms – we had to maintain the place secure, repeatedly check the rooms, activate the heating and run the showers to stop legionnaires disease and to maintain the place in good working order.”

The couple have also travelled all of the technique to Scotland in addition to Welshpool in Wales where they stayed in an old mansion which was like a stately home.

Additionally they did a superb task in Clapham Common in London which allowed them to sightsee in London of their free time, visiting places like Battersea Park.

Nowadays they like to tackle caretaker roles reasonably than assignments involving pets.

She added: “We’re caretakers, so our role involves regular walks across the property to ascertain the whole lot is secure, including the alarm systems.
