The Dutchman arrived late to United’s press conference at Carrington on Tuesday and blamed a ‘VISA procedure’ for running late.

One in all the reporters in attendance jokingly asked whether Ten Hag would ‘fantastic’ himself for turning up late after he penalised Marcus Rashford earlier within the season.

Ten Hag couldn’t help but laugh on the reporter’s query and said he wouldn’t be fining himself because it was not his fault.

The exchange began when Ten Hag walked into the room. He said: ‘I would like to apologise that I’m late, I needed to do a procedure for the VISA and there was a technical problem, in order that’s why.’

One in all the journalists in attendance jokingly replied to the Manchester United manager saying: ‘Are you going to fantastic yourself then?’.

Ten Hag couldn’t help but laugh before responding by saying: ‘No fantastic! I could do nothing about it.’

The reporters comment got here after Ten Hag fined and dropped Rashford for oversleeping and missing a team meeting in December.

Speaking in regards to the incident, Rashford said: ‘Obviously it’s the principles. It is a mistake that may occur. I used to be disillusioned not to begin but I understand the choice.

‘I used to be blissful we managed to win the sport anyway, so we are able to draw a line under it. I used to be late for a gathering – I overslept.’

Ten Hag was satisfied with Rashford’s response having confirmed before kick-off that his absence was resulting from ‘internal disciplinary’ reasons.

‘Everyone has to match the standards and the principles, so again there must be consequences,’ said the United boss. ‘On the pitch there must be consequences and I believe he gave the precise answer.

‘I used to be not satisfied with the performance in the primary half. We had good possibilities to attain a goal. We created them and we’ve to be more clinical in front of goal. We all know Rashy can rating the goals and he did that when he got here on.’

Luke Shaw hinted that discipline was not at all times quite as strict under Ten Hag’s predecessors Ralf Rangnick and Gunnar Solskjaer as he backed the manager’s decision to bench Rashford

Defender Luke Shaw hinted that discipline was not at all times quite as strict under Ten Hag’s predecessors Ralf Rangnick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he backed the manager’s decision to bench Rashford.

‘At a top club like this it must be like that,’ said Shaw, who played on the left side of central defence for the second game in a row.

‘I believe that individuals cannot do whatever they need, and possibly that is been a part of the issue previously with people getting away with silly little things.

‘The manager takes all of that into consideration. Like you have seen today, in the event you’re not keeping the standards high you then won’t play.

‘I believe he (Rashford) is in a very great way for the time being. He’s extremely confident, very positive, very blissful and it’s nice to see it.

‘Everyone knows the standard that he’s got. He’s world class and he may very well be top-of-the-line on the earth if he keeps going. Hopefully he does that.’

Manchester United can be back in motion on Wednesday once they face Leeds of their Premier League clash at Old Trafford.
