Friends and Seinfeld actor Richard Roat dead at 89: The prolific character actor also had recurring roles on Dynasty and Days Of Our Lives

Longtime TV character actor Richard Roat has died on the age of 89.

The star passed away ‘suddenly’ on August 5 in Orange County, California, in keeping with his obituary published by The Los Angeles Times.

‘His biggest love was his family, with whom he shared his incredible humorousness, intelligence, and unmatched zest for all times,’ Roat’s family wrote in his obituary. 

Roat had over 135 acting roles. He was best known for his parts on the TV shows Friends and Seinfeld but he also popped up in The Golden Girls (once because the boyfriend of Betty White’s character) in addition to Completely happy Days, Dallas, Cheers, Murphy Brown and Dynasty.

The actor was born in Connecticut and moved to Hollywood within the Nineteen Sixties for his acting profession.

He got his first break in 1962 with a bit part on the TV series Automotive 54, Where Are You?

Next got here a recurring role on the soap opera The Doctors playing Dr Jerry Chandler.

Within the Nineteen Seventies he landed several guest starring roles on TV shows resembling Hawaii Five-O, Columbo, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, McMillan & Wife, The FBI, Westworld, Police Woman, Vega$, Fantasy Island, Completely happy Days, Dallas and Charlie’s Angels.

The Eighties brought more TV roles. 

He appeared twice on Falcon Crest and was also on Hart To Hart and Newhart. In 1982 he landed the recurring a part of Mr Farnsworth on Hill Street Blues.

In 1986, he starred five times on Dynasty with Joan Collins. And he also popped up on Growing Pains and LA Law.

The nineties saw him on Who’s The Boss? and Step By Step, and he played Professor Henry Moore on Days Of Our Lives in 11 episodes.

And he landed certainly one of his best roles on Seinfeld. 

He played Dr Berg, who said Elaine – played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus – was ‘a difficult patient.’

On Friends he starred as a university professor named Burt who called out David Schwimmer’s character Ross for dating a student.

The episode was titled The One Where Ross Dates A Student and it aired in yr 2000.

His last TV role was on 24 with Kiefer Sutherland in 2009. 

He also worked on Broadway in productions resembling Sunday in Latest York, Any Wednesday and The Wall.

He was  married to his wife Kathy for 40 years.
