Serena Williams broadcasts her retirement from tennis

Tennis legend Serena Williams announced her retirement in a Vogue article published Tuesday.

“I even have never liked the word ‘retirement,'” Williams wrote. “Possibly the very best word to explain what I’m as much as is ‘evolution.’ I’m here to inform you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things which might be necessary to me.”

Williams, who turns 41 next month, has 73 profession singles titles, 23 profession doubles titles and over $94 million in profession winnings.

“I never desired to have to make a choice from tennis and a family. I do not think it’s fair,” Williams wrote. “If I were a man, I would not be writing this because I’d be on the market playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family.”

Williams focused on her family within the announcement, writing that her nearly five-year-old daughter desires to be an older sister. Williams is married to Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian.

“I even have to deal with being a mom, my spiritual goals and at last discovering a special, but just exciting Serena. I’m gonna relish these next few weeks,” Williams wrote in an Instagram post Tuesday.

Professionally, she looks to expand Serena Ventures, a small investment firm of six people who was one in all the primary investors in MasterClass. Her firm raised $111 million in outside financing this yr.
