Almeria, in sunny Spanish Andalucia, was ranked the brightest city for a break within the winter sun.

The attractive destination has a mean of six hours and 18 minutes of sunshine between December and February.

Almeria’s top attraction is the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata, Andalucia’s largest protected coastal area.

A visitor wrote on Tripadvisor: “We actually enjoyed Cabo de Gata and went to Playa de los Genoveses. The entire area was very unspoilt.”

Outside of Spain, Larnaca, Cyprus’s oldest city was the sunniest destination with over six hours of sunshine per day.

Al Murray, Chief Marketing Officer of loveholidays, said: “Because the shorter days and darker nights take hold, a lot of us will likely be dreaming of escaping the UK looking for some sunshine this winter. “The excellent news is you don’t should travel far to search out sunnier days and warmer temperatures – in reality, there are plenty of options just a brief plane ride away.

“We have seen no signs of holiday demand slowing despite Brits’ budgets being squeezed this 12 months, and an increase in winter bookings suggests that many are still desirous to get away.

“There are great deals available on breaks to all of those destinations and at loveholidays we are able to do the deal looking for you – making it even easier so that you can calm down and unwind in your getaway.”
