‘The Wanted will at all times be a five-piece’: Nathan Sykes discusses Tom Parker’s death for first time

Nathan Sykes has spoken in regards to the death of his The Wanted bandmate Tom Parker for the primary time.

The singer, 29, claimed the group will ‘at all times be a five-piece’ while reflecting on supporting the late star during their Most Wanted: Best Hits tour earlier this yr.

Tom died aged 33 on March 30 following a battle with brain cancer after he was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma in October 2020.

Revealing he had been gearing as much as release his own album before their final time on the road together, Nathan said he agreed to tour with pals Max George, 34, Siva Kaneswaran, 33, and Jay McGuiness, 32, since it was the ‘right thing to do’.

On the band’s future, he continued: ‘For my part, The Wanted will at all times be a five-piece, I feel our focus has shifted when it comes to supporting one another and doing things together that could make a difference.

Earlier this month, Tom’s widow Kelsey campaigned for more funding into brain tumour research within the UK during an appearance on BBC Breakfast.

The actress, 32, claimed many families across the country are ‘clinging to straws’ with alternative treatments, which they often need to travel abroad for.

Kelsey explained how she and her husband had opted to go to a clinic in Spain for help, as they desired to explore options apart from chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

She said: ‘Once we were in treatment I used to talk to people on a regular basis. Everyone has to go abroad.

‘While you get diagnosed, because the usual of care hasn’t been modified in 30 years, you might be clutching at straws and pondering, “What else can I do?”

Kelsey – who also has son Bodhi, two, with the late star – said: ‘Every time she sees pictures of her dad, she’s like, “It’s my dad!” She’ll be three at the tip of this month.

‘I’ve been really honest, she does still discuss him daily, she doesn’t quite understand he’s not coming back.

‘So I’ve needed to be really blunt and say he’s not coming back, that’s it, he’s dead and he’s not coming back because she doesn’t really understand.

‘She’s just really confused by it. She thinks he’s on tour. But we do then discuss him daily. She does ask me daily about him.

‘He would not want us to be sad. It’s lonely at night, but I even have to live my life. We’ve been through a lot together. The love I had for him was like no other.

‘I find it hard that I can not text or call him to inform him things. I even have lost the love of my life.’

The Glad You Got here hitmaker posthumously released his memoir, Hope: My Inspirational Life, in May, reaching primary within the Sunday Times best seller list.

Kelsey said: ‘The book has had two weeks at primary. He desired to be sure that it was a bestseller and it’s. He lived life really quick.
