Tom Parker’s widow Kelsey breaks down in tears

Published:

Tom Parker’s widow Kelsey broke down in tears as a clip of her late husband was played on the National Television Awards on Thursday night.

The-30-year-old couldn’t hold back her emotion as a clip was shown from Tom’s documentary Inside My Head – which was nominated within the Best Authored Documentary category.

Kelsey’s husband Tom – who found fame within the band The Wanted – passed away from stage 4 glioblastoma brain cancer on the age of 33 on March 30 after being diagnosed with the illness in October 2020.

Inside My head missed out on winning the gong after Kate Garraway’s Caring for Derek scooped the prize in that category.

As footage of Inside My Head played out on the massive screen, Kelsey was seen getting very emotional.

The clip showed Tom acting on stage – just weeks before he passed away – because the NTAs got a glimpse of the show in the course of the nominations section.

Earlier on within the day before heading to the NTAs, Kelsey took to her Instagram Story to inform fans she was feeling ‘so emotional’.

She said: ‘I do not know why I did it this morning, but I sat there and looked through all of Tom’s reels.

‘I do not know why I just did that to myself and literally, I’m an emotional wreck this morning and I simply cannot stop crying.

‘I’m trying to not cry at once. I just think with obviously the NTAs today and you already know even with it being postponed, I believe it’s a protracted time coming.

‘I just feel overwhelmed by all the pieces.

‘I feel overwhelmed I’ll need to walk to the red carpet alone, that is the primary time I’ll need to do that without him.’

She added: ‘I believe it’s just the construct as much as all the pieces and the day has come. Whether we win or don’t win, I’m so pleased with how far we now have come.’

It comes after earlier this week Kelsey shared a poignant message as she reflected on her grief in a post to mark World Mental Health Day.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, she explained that not daily is positive and urged her followers to achieve out in the event that they are ever fighting their mental health.

Alongside a snap taken with their children Aurelia, three, and Bodhi, two, Kelsey penned: ‘Tom called us #PostiveParkers and this may endlessly be what we’re.

‘But today on #WorldMentalHealthDay it is vital to say that not daily is positive; some days are loads harder than others. I actually have learnt to take it day-to-day, moment by moment. That is all we will do.

‘I actually have the children who keep me going and have many friends & relations who check in on me recurrently and lift me up.

‘In case you’re struggling don’t attempt to hide, confide in those near you and get any make it easier to need. ❤️’

Kelsey’s post got here after it was revealed she is going to front an ITV documentary exploring grief and following her life since The Wanted star’s death from brain cancer.

Kelsey Parker: Life After Tom will see her allow cameras into her home to follow her very personal journey with grief as she hopes to attach with people in similar situations, including other famous faces.

From household names who open up about their very own personal experiences with grief, to other young widows and bereavement experts, Kelsey’s journey will see her and her family mark major milestones without Tom.

Throughout the six-part ITVBe series, Kelsey check out death cafes, grief yoga and other methods of coming to terms with loss, exploring her bereavement as she tries to rebuild her life without her husband.

Kelsey took to her Instagram to share the news of her latest documentary, admitting it has been ‘very difficult’ at times.

She revealed she is currently in the midst of filming as she described it as a ‘rollercoaster ride’ but shared her hope that the series may also help other people.

She penned: ‘I’m delighted to share with you that Kelsey Parker: Life After Tom will probably be in your screens later this 12 months on ITV.

‘A six part observational documentary following me and my family during the last six months since Tom’s death. Obviously a really difficult film to make but one which I’m incredibly pleased with.

‘We’re still in the midst of filming and it has been a rollercoaster ride but I am unable to thank the team enough for believing in me to share my story, to proceed Tom’s work and cement his legacy and to hopefully help others.

‘I actually have met and am meeting essentially the most incredible individuals who have loved, lost and who’re fighting to maintain their family members here.

‘I’m learning about myself, pushing myself and I’m sharing all of it with my amazing family and friends who’re there with me every step of the best way. They’re all in it and I am unable to wait for you to fulfill them!

‘The cameras are following the hard times but we have been blessed with a tremendous summer and the team have been there to get all of it so join us for camping trips, Cornwall, weddings, christenings and so way more love and laughter along the best way.’

Kelsey said she hopes her family’s ‘optimism shines through’ within the documentary as she said she desires to ‘keep moving forward’ despite her devastating loss.

She dedicated the series to her late husband Tom and said she hopes it makes him ‘shine’ within the lengthy post.

The documentary will unflinchingly take a look at bereavement and can confront death with compassion, empathy, emotional frankness and a few humour, in line with an outline.

The series is being produced by the identical team that brought viewers Caring For Derek, which gave an insight into Derek Draper’s recovery from long Covid, which has left him bed-bound and seen him cared for by his wife Kate Garraway.
