3 way too early daring Atlanta Haws predictions for the 2022-23 NBA season

Last season, the Atlanta Hawks were unable to construct on their incredible 2021 NBA Playoff run. They did make it back to the Playoffs, but after winning much fewer games than expected.

Waiting for the 2022-2023 season, pundits are pessimistic concerning the Hawks’ possibilities, especially following an unceremonious first-round playoff elimination. Immediately, the oddsmakers even have the Hawks eighth within the Eastern Conference and eighteenth overall.

Having said that, Atlanta has a couple of things entering into their favor that may potentially help them play beyond those projections.

One in all them is superstar guard Trae Young. He’s the closes the Eastern Conference has to a Stephen Curry clone, and he should lead this Hawks team anew. This past season, the 23-year-old was only the second player in NBA history to have each essentially the most points and assists within the league. The young point guard will proceed to recuperate within the near future.

The team also did a very good job of adding much-needed firepower by acquiring Dejounte Murray from the San Antonio Spurs. Bringing Murray enabled the Hawks to significantly improve throughout the offseason. They now have a unbelievable two-way backcourt partner for Young. Sure, it may be difficult to switch Kevin Huerter and Danilo Gallinari, but adding Justin Holiday to the rotation is a unbelievable reinforcement of their perimeter. The Hawks were aware that they couldn’t just resurrect the team that fell in need of expectations the previous yr. Now, they really have a likelihood to turn into something deadly within the crowded Eastern Conference.

Apart from that, though, what are other interesting which may occur to the Hawks in 2022-23?

Hawks 2022-23 Predictions

3) The Hawks shall be higher than the Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets currently have quite a bit happening. There are multiple Kevin Durant trade iterations together with other trade possibilities being held over Kyrie Irving. As well as, Ben Simmons continues to be a controversial figure. And that’s with him not even having participated in a single game with the squad.

Having said that, the Nets are still probably not a top-end title candidate even when all three return. If Irving or KD go, this team may find it difficult to qualify for the postseason. If each are lost, the Nets will have to be rebuilt from scratch.

Either way, the Nets won’t be great and can fall behind a lot of East clubs, including the Hawks.

Forget that Trae Young was held to fifteen.4 points per game on 32 percent shooting during a dreadful five-game series defeat to the Miami Heat within the 2021 playoffs. It’s all about perspective. Have a look at that loss as a springboard for GM Travis Schlenk pairing up Young with All-Star guard Dejounte Murray. Now, the Hawks are really set to fly high under this pair. They’re adequate to complete among the many conference’s top five teams.

Even when the oddsmakers have the Hawks placing at around eighth within the East, there really isn’t any way the Nets are a lot better (if in any respect) than Atlanta. The Hawks added more firepower because of the Murray deal, and so they have a way more stable situation. Well, a minimum of until they trade up of their frontline — more on that later.

2) Each Dejounte Murray and Trae Young shall be All-Stars

Hawks fans will love Dejounte Murray. He’s a protracted, defensive-minded All-Star guard, who improved significantly last yr as an on-ball scorer and facilitator. The Hawks urgently need the perimeter defensive acumen he possesses. Fans also needs to appreciate that having Murray will give Young more opportunities to display his versatility off the ball.

The caveat is that the Hawks pretty mortgaged their future to amass Murray. Recall that that they had to give up three first-round picks and a swap for Murray. This emphasizes the sense of urgency permeating the Hawks franchise without delay. With a mean of just 24 years old, each Young and Murray are about to enter their physical primes, and so they have a likelihood to make this Hawks squad really special in the approaching years.

Why wait, though? There’s no reason why each of them wouldn’t be All-Stars in 2023. Young should contend as an All-Star starter, while Murray needs to be a greater pick than Fred VanVleet, Darius Garland, and even LaMelo Ball.

1) John Collins and/or Clint Capela are headed out

As stable as things seem in Atlanta, there may be one elephant within the room. Big man John Collins stays on the deal table for the reason that Hawks have been considering offloading him. Any deal involving him may also involve his frontline partner, Clint Capela. One intriguing destination is the Chicago Bulls.

A possible Hawks-Bulls trade could have the Bulls receiving Collins and Capela. On the flip side, the Hawks would get Nikola Vucevic, Coby White, Derrick Jones Jr., Tony Bradley, and perhaps a pick or two.

This type of deal (even when it’s not with the Bulls) is smart for the Hawks. Atlanta would potentially do that primarily for reasons of future flexibility. Do not forget that Collins and Capela have multi-year contracts. Collins has 4 years, and Capela has three years. More flexibility means the Hawks would have the liberty to amass a 3rd star along with Young and Murray in the event that they were capable of unencumber a ton of salary room the next summer.

The Hawks would ideally need to get players who’ve expiring contracts. White, Bradley, and Vucevic all have contracts that expire at the top of the subsequent season. As well as, a productive center like Vucevic also helps them stay within the postseason hunt.
